John J. Hopfield and Jafari A. Hinton as the winners of the Nobel Prize in Physics for 2024
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has announced John J. Hopfield and Jafari A. Hinton as the winners of the Nobel Prize in Physics for 2024
The names of the winners of this prize were announced today (Tuesday, May 17) in Stockholm, Sweden.
Sweden’s Royal Academy has said it has been recognized as the winner of the award for “foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial neural networks.”
They’ve used the science of physics to develop methods that are the basis of today’s powerful machine learning.
John J. Hopfield was born in 1933 in Chicago and is a professor at Princeton University in America.
Jeffrey A. Hinton was born in 1947 in London and is a professor at the University of Toronto in Canada.
Victor Ambrose and Gary Roccon won the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine yesterday as well.
Winners of Nobel Prize in the fields of literature, chemistry, peace and economic sciences are also to be announced in the coming days.
